The Women of Kol Ami (WKA) have been busy celebrating together and helping others. In December, about 70 women gathered to celebrate Hanukah with a hilarious skit written by Harriet Kronman’s husband, Len Kronman and performed by WKA members and Cantor Janece Cohen and. Fun was had by all while we shared a latke dinner.
In January, WKA co-sponsored “We Are A Movement, Not Just a Museum” with MoKA. Louise Greenfield began the program by sharing her insights from the WRJ (Women of Reform Judaism) Civil Rights Journey this past fall. She traveled with five WKA members to Alabama to study and learn about the civil rights movement. Beverly Elliott, Co-Founder of the African American Museum of Southern Arizona, then shared her experiences growing up in Ann Arbor and getting to know her neighbor who was a Holocaust survivor there. She also provided background into the founding of this latest Tucson gem, the African American Museum, inspired by her grandson, and encouraged everyone to visit.
In early February, a large group of women compiled and participated in a Shabbat morning service along with women members of the Kol Ami choir. WKA provided a kiddush lunch following the service. In mid-February, Marcia Abelson distributed 50 Valentine Bags to women at the Sister Jose’s Women’s Center. Bags were filled (by Nancy Lappitt, Marcia Abelson, Cantor Janece Cohen and Adrian Flynn) with warm socks, snacks, candy, toiletries and beauty items. This is the second year WKA has sponsored this event, spearheaded by Nancy Lappitt, for the guests of Sister Jose’s who were delighted to receive the Valentine bags.
Coming Up: The 2023 WKA Women’s Seder “Sisters Coming Together” on March 29 at 6:30pm. Look for the new Haggadah written by WKA members and new food for the seder. More information coming soon.
